After suffering from the loss of his grandfather mid-week of the Monte-Carlo masters and an uninspired final against Nadal, Novak Djokovic has officially withdrawn from his family-owned tournament in Belgrade next week.
“After consulting with my family, I’ve made a decision not to take part in the tournament this year,” Djokovic said.
“I will take some time, try restore my emotional energy. This is certainly one of the toughest decisions in my career, but it is impossible for me to play in the next few days and to think about tennis, when there are some other things in my head.”
Novak’s uncle is, after all, the tournament director for the Seria Open, which is also owned by his family. Djokovic won the event in 2009 and is the current reigning champion.
