Forgive me if I can’t transition back to tennis right now. I know Federer just lost in three to Jo-Win, but I’m still reeling from the “Red Wedding” episode of HBO’s Game of Thrones.
Not only did Jo-Wilfried Tsonga beat Roger Federer, he did it with surprising ease: 7-5, 6-3, 6-3.
Federer took a 4-2 lead but played like a mere mortal after that. He blew three overheads, missed easy volleys, hit no aces, dropped serve six times and took a shot to the body on the point that put Tsonga ahead to stay in the final set.
Facing a break point at 3-all, Federer sliced a drop shot, and Tsonga raced forward to scoop it up. He whacked a backhand that clipped the net cord and then drilled Federer under his right arm.
Tsonga waved in apology, then quickly won the final two games.
But enough about that.
Game of Thrones viewers had their minds blown during Sunday’s episode.
Across social media, fans quickly expressed their disbelief in what transpired on the show.
Celebrities chimed in, too, garnering thousands of retweets on Twitter.
Comedic entertainer Rosie O’Donnell tweeted, “HOLY SHIT BOPPERS,” while musician Ed Sheeran tweeted, “i dont know what just happened in game of thrones. i’m in shock.”
Meanwhile, actor Seth Rogen told Mashable the episode “was f@$king crazy.”
At least in tennis, your favorite players aren’t methodically killed off during the height of their career. “Thrones” fans know what I’m talking about…
