World No. 1 Rafael Nadal recently graced the cover of ‘Cosas Peru’ magazine, showing off his ripped chest in an unbuttoned oxford shirt and jeans.
The interesting part is that he seems to be emerging from a swimming pool completely clothed. Does this mean something in Latin culture?
Is it a symbol of good luck, like he is prepared for any challenge that life may offer him? Or maybe a reference to ancient Peruvian culture where sailors traveled the far corners of the earth in search of fortune and glory?
That would seem to fit Nadal’s personality and life situation.
In the magazine’s cover story, he acknowledges that he is still a bit afraid of storms, if less so than before. He also notes that he’s not in a rush to start a family just yet.
Nadal has a long-time girlfriend, Maria “Xisca” Perello, whom he has known since childhood growing up in the picturesque island-town of Majorca, Spain.
For the interview, Nadal phoned with a reporter from his hotel room in Shanghai, and mentioned that he’d be in Majorca, Paris and Peru in the ensuing weeks.
Yes, that’s quite a bit of travel. But when you have the ambition (and body) of Nadal, it would be a shame to keep it locked up in a hotel room.
