19-year-old Eugenie Bouchard has plenty of admirers around the world, including the Genie Army, a group of Australian fans who dress in red and white and sing and chant during her matches.
But as she continues to knock down her opponents at the Australian Open — and making her way to her first Slam semifinal of her young career — there’s one person in particular that she hopes is watching.
That would be the fellow Canadian and pop idol Justin Bieber.
When asked after her quarterfinal win about which celebrity she would most like to date, Bouchard hesitantly named Bieber, and the answer was met with laughs and boos from the crowd of 15,000.
She has not yet met Bieber, who is four days younger than she is, but Bouchard is convinced that one day she will.
“Don’t worry, it’s going to happen,” she said. “Yes. But I think I need to do something bigger to get his attention, like win a Slam, something like that. I won’t even have to do anything, and maybe he’ll just reach out, and we’ll tweet or something like that.”
If her winning streak continues, that “someday” may be this weekend…
