As Maria Sharapova dons the front cover of this month’s Esquire Mexico, you can’t help but notice a special sparkle in her eye.
After all, she’s only 26, and is climbing back to the top of the women’s game. But her renewed enthusiasm may be the result of her new relationship.
Even though her boyfriend, Grigor Dimitrov, is 22 years old, which is only a four-year difference, she’s having a good time.
She told USA Today Sports that, “Maybe it makes me really young, too, inside, which is good.”
It seems to be a win-win situation for the two of them: Maria is getting the expected boost of dating a younger player, and Dimitrov seems to be having super human powers, as he ousts the top seeds during the clay-court season.
“I have so many things going on in my life and I really love them. Of course I want someone to be by my side to enjoy them. You know, I can jump on a plane tomorrow and go somewhere because I want to do it. And it’s really important that that person respects me for the decisions that I make and the things that I do in my life.”
Ms. Sharapova, don’t worry — you never lost your groove… you just kind of misplaced it for a bit. You go, girl.
