You may remember her. Some would call her the American equivalent of Anna Kournikova.
But now-retired starlet Ashley Harkleroad did Mrs. Iglesias one better back in August 2008, becoming the first WTA woman to ever pose in Playboy (no, you’re not getting any freebie pics here, you’ve heard of Google).
While her tennis career never quite panned out—highest ranking, #39 in June 2003, 8 ITF titles — Harkleroad went on to pursue acting and did some commentating work for Tennis Channel in 2012 (no word on whether a return engagement was offered there).
Having been pushed into a tennis career at age four, the Rossville, Georgia-native experienced the typical burnout that so many young tennis players go through.
She attempted a brief comeback in 2010, playing in the Sony Ericsson Open and on the World Team Tennis Tour that summer.
These days, she’s married to former men’s pro/coach Chuck Adams and is a doting mother of two, playing in the occasional Open tournament including The Ojai in SoCal last month (April 2013).
At age 28, she could conceivably try her hand at pro tennis again, should she get that itch.
Whatever path she decides to take, we’re not judging, we never have, we swear…
